Poor anticristo, Have you never heard of giving someone a helping hand. When you are not down it is easy to critise but if you were blind and in that situation and you were given a little lift who knows how far and high a man might rise all because of a kind word.

fucking blind man instead of being in middle of the street just waiting for a generous man he should get a fucking stick and start walikin instead of waiting, it a matter of will, and thats pretty nice but 1 of 1000000 people are like that, fucking video sucks, they make people more lazy everyday instead of helping you saying that if you want you can, not that stupid shit. i hope he dies

when all it takes is just to re write a few simple words to change a mans life then we all should be doing something to help the less fortunate. God sends us angels every day it is up to us to see them. This touched my heart.

Enjoy The Beauty of The Film - It's Art - Not Science - We Will Never Understand, Analize or Be Able to Put into Words Everything, Nor Should We Want To - Truly Love It Alone ... For What It Is - it made me cry, grateful, think, read your comments and write this - like the flight of the hummingbird - i don't want or need to know why ...

Thanks for this video. I was as much inter rested by the comments than by the video. It's really not in my view a beautiful film, but a video with a strong message and a sharp critic. I saw it only ones, but I paid close attention on the fact that the man incarnating social success didn't gave him a dime, neither at the first encounter nor the second, and this is very significant. In a short movie like that, every detail is significant. In my view the beggar incarnates the failure of the society, and that he is blind is more use as a symbol for the message and the critic of the video than as a fact. This is to me not a video on charity and the good heart of the people, but really more on how you look at life and project yourself in it depends your failure or your success in the society. And the man in the suit is making an experiment of his life philosophy and comes back later to verify the result, and the result demonstrates his point. And of course doesn't give him any money even if he incarnates the one who has a lot, probably much more than most who gave after he changed the sign. It's really about how you look at life, your life and life around, that makes the difference, and solely you are responsible for the outcome of your life, not the society or God or nature.

I'm glad it wasn't a video on charity and the good heart of the people to the less fortunate as many comments suggested. It goes deeper by tackling at least an understanding of the problem with an answer to it. After that you agree or not, it's an open debate. So I congratulates the film maker for the courage to take the issue at its core in such a short movie...but by seeing most viewers answers to it, the charity/good heart element which is not his direct point, is taking over, maybe because a lot of people need to be reassured about themselves and human kind, so bombarded on daily basis by bad news. So in that sens the movie felt short to its core message. Overall, I will say good and courageous.

Education makes a difference! The guy with the black suit with brief case, he knew what the old man wanted to say in his sign. By writing the same meaning in more powerful words, he made a big difference in old man's life. It is also very touchy movie.

sux huh? pity party? nice chirping birds tho. makes me want to vote for Barack. poor guy beggin on the street.....wudn't happen if obama was prez! no check that...IF nader was prez!

sure, sure...beautiful day if you happen to be wearing designer clothes and wearing a rollex with fancy shoes and a leather briefcase. ahh but it's all in your approach it isn't it? just like those infernal chirping birds thru the whole danged short,,,you either chose to sing a cheerful song or curl up in a ball and lick your wounds. nice cheerful bird noises tho huh? ohh, and loved that guy's pastel colored shirt...great contrast and comparisons on happiness? no, naw...this was a feed into a story line that 'there but for the grace of gawd goes I'. so let's just try and make the poor accept their fate with a smile and a coin or two. forget universal healthcare and social security. let 'em beg and be happy...it's all just a matter of attitude anywho right? This is a feel good, sentiment serving to perpetuate the status quo isn't it? Tho i felt so much better knowing we all can 'feel' relatively happy if we chose to. big deal...not worth a prize in film making. except of course that cut where the yuppie passes by the beggar and then the camera catches him come back into frame for a double take on the ol' man he passes by. I'd give that a cudo...but nuthin else :)

be happy. :) i am ...sorta --hahaha

Bonita! Thank you, thank you! If only this depicted the world as it is. We all have an opportunity to share how much this meant to us by following its example. This video has been viewed over 1,000,000 times. Imagine the impact we 1,000,000 people could have!

As for Rick DeGolia, well, we don't mind you taking up space as long as you don't mind hearing from each an every one of us who finds what you did here despicable. So, let's let Lobbyist Rick know how we really feel:

And here's the Original...

Charles and Maurice Saatchi liked to tell their colleagues the story of the blind beggar in Central Park who sat on the sidewalk with a sign that read: "I am blind."

One fine morning in early spring, an advertising copywriter passed by on his way to work, bent down and wrote something on the sign. When he stopped by that evening and asked how the day had gone, the blind man replied, "Fantastic. Never done so well. What did you write on the sign?"

The copywriter replied, "I added a few words to make it read: It is spring and I am blind."

This is unbelievably weird, because this is the very same story a boyfriend of mine told me thirty years ago...he was a very well known copy writer & actually did this for a blind man in Central Park. I have to wonder if when he was in Mexico he told this to someone down there.

What we need to remember is that a beautiful day is much more than what we can see. The old man was experiencing the day through all of his other senses and probably much more acutely than most passers by. To me a beautiful day is the warmth of sunshine upon my skin, a light, cooling breeze, the sweet scent of blossoms on the air, the twitter of tiny birds and the shared joy I feel with the other living beings, plant and animal.

There is still hope for us when something this beautiful is created. I was moved to tears.
As far as using this great human story to promote Barak Obama, well, what can I say: doesn't surprise me one bit. His supporters will go to any length. $2300 for a dinner in this economy? Aren't Democrats supposed to be "for the poor"? What gall to use this sheer beauty of a film for something so hypocritical!

Gina16 (Hace 6 años)
Rick DeGolia ~ "Orthogonal"? Convenient word to justify using this for your own selfish means! Shame on you for "taking advantage" of what this what meant for, but you decided to use it as your "soapbox" to post your own personal political views. This was NOT the place to do this ~ NOT what this was about!

It's, again, a shame that through doing this, you probably diminished the message and feelings for those who would've otherwise enjoyed the artistry and heartfelt emotions for which it was intended. I'm sick of hearing rhetorical propoganda ~ especially when and where the platform clearly does not have a place!

I loved this. Every nuance. An absolutely fabulous effort.
Okay, so here is an orthogonal view: This is the best story in effective fundraising that I've ever seen. Here is what it motivated: (sorry for taking so much space, but I thought it important)

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

The Time is Now

Our next President has the tremendous opportunity to define what the 21st century means to America. Thomas Jefferson defined the vision and direction for our country for the 19th century and, with our help, Barack Obama can do this for the 21st century.

The Time is Now

America is hungry for change. After the past eight years, we need vision, we inspiration, and genuine leadership. In Silicon Valley terms, the next presidency is clearly a restart, but because of the current inflection point in history, it has the potential to be much more than that.

This Presidential election is going to be close. While the Democrats may experience another "wave" victory in the Congressional elections (the first time for such a back-to-back victory since 1932-1934), the Presidential race will be very close. There is too much at stake for the status quo to roll over. McCain has found that he gets much more news coverage if he talks about Barack, than if he describes his own positions. The Republicans are choosing to make this a referendum on Barack Obama. The polls are tightening.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF OUR LIFETIMES.

Look at the primaries. Turnout will be huge. There is an enormous amount at stake. Barack is opening up states that haven't been contested for decades. There is a large paid voter registration staff in Georgia (including my son, I'm proud to say) and many other states that were previously considered "safe" for Republicans. This is exciting. This defines a new horizon. IT IS ALSO EXPENSIVE. I urge you to dig deep and make a stretch contribution to Obama for America. He needs our money now!!

The Time is Now

Senator Obama is coming to San Francisco for his final pre-convention Gala in Northern California on August 17. I urge you to go to this site http://my.barackobama.com/sanfranaug17 and support his campaign at one of these levels:

1. Attend the 4:30PM dinner with Barack on August 17. Meet and speak with him at our table.

2. Attend the 5:30PM event on August 17 for $2300 per person.

3. Make a stretch contribution. Even if you can't attend the event, double whatever you are comfortable with. This is truly an opportunity to influence US history.

It is interesting that everyone seems to have missed the main point of the film. Once the guy stopped projecting himself as a victim people were willing to help him out. That is the lesson everyone needs to learn from this, especially here in America where every subset seems obligated to project themselves as victims, complaining and moaning about how everyone else needs to fix their life instead of following the protagonist's lead in this movie.

Love can only exist in an individual. Charity can only come from a loving heart. Governments are heartless. When will we learn this? The government did nothing for this blind man, but the charity and love of that saintly man awakened others, who, as individuals, showed charity and love. People become less charitable as their right and ability to be charitable is taken from them.

It is good that the blind man received more money. The important point to note tough is that the young man gave something more valuable. He did not give money but instead, precious time and thought on how to help the blind man.
His message also made others aware of their blessings and be thankful for them and at same time, show compassion to those less fortunate. The givers were happy to give of their blessings instead of grudgingly throwing the odd coin.
Therein lies the beauty and the emotions of this video.
Congratulations to Alonso Alvarez Barreda and thank you.

Thanks for sharing. I looked at the film a bit differently, and perhaps self serving in a way... kinda long to get the point and after seeing this all the way through, while I was touched, also saw the marketing side of this... hate me for it but... this shows you how great copywriting can increase ROI.

Yes there is a touching moment here, but the message I got was... go out and hire a great copywriter who is focused on generating actionable results.

PS, what type of response do you think this would have received if a child was to walk up and write the same line???

Alfonso continue to follow your heart and passion for your talent is obvious. This short film conveys in so many ways how we as humans view the world. Why does viewing a "beggar" in the street create such distance and often fear in our heart? Your pen changed his life if only for a day. Hopefully, not only was the beggar transformed in his thinking, but those who donated. Maybe one moment of giving can change the life of a giver forever. Gracias. I look forward to viewing your incredible work.

Will this trick work for the old man the next day, the days after? Without many more tricks from that young man, will it change his life at all?

Wow! I would ask that young man to be the chief marketing director of my mega multi-international company. He seems to be able to improvise on his feet very effectively. His Tom cruise like appearance is even more telling! a young capitalist with a human face helping a hopeless poor old man.

The music is very melancholic, sentimental but the acting and filmmaking techniques are great though.
